Enjoy a New Year break in the magnificent city of Brugge, this beautifully preserved Flemish gem is one of the prettiest medieval cities in Europe. Once a thriving port the prosperity of its merchants is evident in the handsome gabled houses, ornate guildhalls and majestic churches. Take a trip on the picturesque canals to experience the city's remarkable peace and calm or a ride around the city in a horse-drawn carriage. There can’t be many settings more beautiful at Christmastime than Brugge with its cobbled streets and historic buildings. The delightful Christmas Market on the main square forms a ring around an open air ice rink and operates right through until New Years Eve.
ITINERARY
- Day One: Early departure to Folkestone for our journey through the Eurotunnel to France. On arrival in Calais we continue through to Belgium and on to the Academie hotel in Brugge. The evening is then free to explore the city and enjoy a meal in one of the wide variety of restaurants.
- Day Two: A day at leisure in Brugge with time to browse around the shops, stroll through the picturesque streets or maybe take a cruise on the canals. Medieval Brugge is one of the loveliest cities in Belgium and because much of the centre is pedestrianised, it is very easy to explore. This evening spend another night in the city’s restaurants and bars and enjoy the atmosphere on the Square with the firework display at midnight to welcome in 2009.
- Day Three: A further day at leisure or join us for a visit to the city of Brussels with it’s famous sights such as the Atomium, the Grand Place and one of Brussels landmarks, a cheeky little bronze fountain sculpture, the Manekin Pis.
- Day Four: We return to Calais for our Eurotunnel journey back to Folkestone and home to North Wales.
