This beautifully preserved Flemish gem is one of the prettiest medieval cities in Europe. Once a thriving port the prosperity of its merchants is evident in the handsome gabled houses, ornate guildhalls and majestic churches. Take a trip on the picturesque canals to experience the city's remarkable peace and calm or a ride along the narrow cobbled streets in a horse-drawn carriage, then savour the tiny lace parlours, chocolate boutiques and old curiosity shops of this delightful city, aptly dubbed the 'Venice of the North'.
- First Day: Early departure to Folkestone for a journey through the Eurotunnel to France. Continue on to Belgium and the Academie Hotel in Brugge.
- EXCURSION INCLUDED
- A visit to the city of Brussels, the capital of Belgium. We meet our local guide for an interesting city tour, taking in the all the parliament buildings, as well as all the famous sights such as the Atomium, the Grand Place and that cheeky little Manekin Pis.
- OPTIONAL EXCURSION
- An afternoon drive through the Flanders countryside to Ypres, a town with strong associations with the First World War. Highlights include interesting museums, the Cloth Hall, plus its most famous monument, the Menin Gate. We remain at Ypres until the ‘Last Post Ceremony’ has taken place.
- Last Day: We return to the Eurotunnel terminal at Calais for our journey to Folkestone and home to North Wales.
