A superb thirteen-day touring holiday exploring The Magic of Andalucia with visits to Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Granada, Toledo and Burgos. A land rich in natural and architectural beauty that combines the old world with modern Mediterranean sophistication. Beautiful countryside reveals delightful towns and pretty whitewashed villages and the superb cultural cities are full of history and art with elaborate architecture.
ITINERARY
- Day One: Early departure for our journey south to Plymouth where we board the Brittany Ferries flagship the ‘Pont Aven’ for the afternoon sailing to Santander. Facilities include a choice of restaurants and lounges, two cinemas, live music and dancing, stylish shopping malls, plus a swimming pool and leisure area. Cabins are all air-conditioned and have full en suite facilities.
- Day Two: We arrive in Santander around lunchtime and disembark, then travel south to the Spanish capital city of Madrid and the Gran Hotel Colon where we stay for two nights.
- Day Three: This morning enjoy a guided tour of this sophisticated and vibrant city with its classical boulevards, fountains and world famous museums. Afternoon at leisure for personal sightseeing.
- Day Four: We check out and head further south to the city of Cordoba and the Eurostars Cuidad Hotel where we stay overnight.
- Day Five: A guided tour of Cordoba, charming town with winding narrow streets, interesting shops and delightful patios with fountains, plus the Mezquita, the grandest and most beautiful mosque ever constructed by the Moors. Later we drive through the Guadalquivir Valley of the to the spectacular town of Seville and the Eurostars Sevilla Hotel where we stay for the next three nights.
- Day Six: This morning we have a guided tour of Seville, a city whose historic past has been influenced by its Arab occupation, still visible in the various monuments and mosques. Don't miss the spectacular Alcazar, a former Arab Fort that has superb examples of Moorish architecture, tiles, carvings and wonderful gardens.
- Day Seven: A further free day to explore more of Seville. Perhaps visit the immense Gothic Cathedral and ascend the Giralda Tower to get a fantastic view over the city, then wander through Santa Cruz, the old part of the town with its winding streets and whitewashed houses.
- Day Eight: Today we head to Granada, the home of the Alhambra, the most exciting, sensual and romantic of all European monuments. We stay for two nights at the Gran Hotel Luna.
- Day Nine: A morning guided tour and included visit to the magnificent Alhambra Palace, set on a wooded hill above the city. The only medieval Arab palace in existence, it is recognised as one of the Wonders of the World. The Generalife, with its magnificent landscaped gardens featuring cascading waterfalls, fountains, trees and flowers was a former summer retreat of Spanish kings.
- Day Ten: We depart Granada this morning and head north to Toledo, a city granted World Heritage Site status in 1987. Built on a rugged cliff and surrounded on three sides by the River Tagus, the city is dominated by the Alcazar fortress and the Gothic cathedral. Overnight at the Eurostars Hotel
- Day Eleven: A guide tour of delightful Toledo before we travel north to historic Burgos, the capital of old Castille. A wonderful city with an attractive Old Quarter, plazas, parks and a magnificent cathedral. Overnight stay at the Hotel Corona De Castilla.
- Day Twelve: Leaving Burgos we drive the short distance to Santander and board the Pont Aven for the afternoon sailing back to the UK. Time to relax and enjoy the ship’s facilities once more.
- Day Thirteen: We dock in Plymouth in the late afternoon and commence our return journey to North Wales.
