Pop your cork and put some fizz into a great weekend getaway in the Champagne Region with a visit to the Mercier Cellars for an insight into Champagne making and a taste of the finished product! The City of Reims is an historic and attractive town with some great monuments and attractions, the Angel of Reims smiles down on visitors from one of the most spectacular cathedrals in France.
ITINERARY
- Day One: Early hours departure to Folkestone for a journey through the Eurotunnel to Calais, then on to the city of Reims for a welcome glass of champagne at the Mercure Hotel where we stay for three nights.
- Day Two: Today we visit Epernay, the Capital of Champagne with its many grand houses and mansions located at the heart of the world's most prestigious vineyards. Enjoy an included visit to the Mercier Champagne cellars. Panoramic lifts descend 30 metres into the cavernous chalk cellars where a laser-guided train takes you on a tour of the cellars housing some 15 million bottles of champagne.
- Day Three: A free day to explore Reims with its elegant Art Deco facades, champagne houses, stylish shops and pavement cafés, plus some great museums and Unesco World Heritage sites including the magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral. A masterpiece of gothic art from the 13th century adorned with over 2300 statues including the famous Smiling Angel and where 26 Kings of France were crowned.
- Day Four: We travel back to Calais for a return Eurotunnel journey to Folkestone and home to North Wales.
