To the north of the province of Barcelona lies La Costa de Maresme, a coastline of long beaches, washed by the crystal waters of the Mediterranean. The ever-popular holiday resort of Calella is the tourist capital of the Costa del Maresme, boasting more than 3km of fine beaches backed by a palm-lined promenade. The old part of town is centred around the church of Santa María, a Neo-classical building with a Baroque main front. The town is filled with quaint narrow streets where you will find shops, bodegas, bars and restaurants plus a range entertainment to suit all tastes. Dalmau Park is a pleasant spot for a stroll leading to the area of the lighthouse, the seafaring building that has become an emblem of the town, rising above a promontory that dominates the whole coastline.
